The Thamesiders Model Railroad Group is a sub-division of the Eastern Division of the National Model Railroad Association (NMRA) British Region. We are a small group of model railroaders, primarily from Essex, who met through the NMRA and decided to form a small group to further our knowledge and enjoyment of North American railroads, both full size and model. The Eastern Division covers East Anglia, and some members come from Northeast London. As its name suggests the Thamesiders group covers the southern part of the division, nominally Essex, parts of Suffolk and a small part of London.

The group normally meets once a month somewhere in Essex, we do not have a permanent home so we make use of members homes and local model railway club premises. We welcome new members and membership of the NMRA is not essential although it is preferred and encouraged. Our goal is to spread the word of US outline railroading to the East Anglia area. As we do not have a permenant home we are developing a module standard and are building a series of modules to allow us to construct a layout. Please see the modules page for more details.

The group has a semi-regular newsletter, "The Ditchlight" distributed to all members every two months with contact details and maps for upcoming meets and up to date model railroad news.
The latest issue is now available online. Please click here to go to the newsletter page.

The group has wide ranging interests ranging from the smallest of narrow gauge lines to the large class 1 railroads of today. The main periods modeled are the 1950s steam/diesel transition era and the 1990s modern mega railroads ans shortlines

The group would be delighted to represent US outline model railroading at local model railway exhibitions. We can provide a selection of layouts for exhibition, some of which are detailed on our layouts page.
